Soho Reds

Are you putting a red bow on it?
Kate Spade thinks you should...
Give colorfully. Watch the fun movie!

Sunday night a lot of people were out scooping up some color to give...

Accross the street (Mercer street) the girl Santas at Vivianne Tam wished the lights were on...

Seen in Vivianne Tam's window..

Balthazar Bakery was buzzing...

What to get?

Converse on Broadway were full of red Converse. What else?

Next door at Dean & Deluca I was hypnotized by a table full of French caramels...

They had lots of shaped cakes like this drum...

And a Mr. Snowman cake:

Dark chocolate layered w/chocolate moose & caramel, covered in vanilla butter cream wrapped in white chocolate!

New York yellow cab ginger cookies at D&D - I prefer gingerMEN for authenticity....

Merry Hols!

And Happy Holidays

Antique Garage looked cosy and nice last night but I had to run home to paint cats :)

CHEERS PBers!

Paint New York RED!

Tons of RED in NYC right now particularly at Museum of FIT
The Great Designers Part One is on until May 8, 2012.
Don't you love this Dior 'corset' hat?
These Gucci red shoes would be perfect forever - all treasures on exhibit are from FIT's permanent collection.

Red gown from Valentino's last couture collection...

Forever contemporary, Halston's 'bath towel' gown...

A classic red check Clair McCardell to drool over...

Lots of checks in Paris right now - these are in Macy's.

Who needs to go to Paris? Not for chocolate chips anyway...

Who doesn't love giant red Xmas balls?

These in Donna Karan's Soho windows...Red Ribbon Macarons, watercolor, 9" x 11"

Macy's Red Elf entrance is more friendly than Barneys no?

Just one red raspberry decorates Cafe Petrossian tarts, perhaps NYC's most Frenchie patisserie...

Last week the Met was getting ready decking the halls...

But their annual Neopolitan Baroque Creche has been up for ages - always worth a visit..

A tiny exhibit of mostly red exquisite Faberge has been rescued from their hidden coffers at the Met...

Another new Met exhibit - Japanese storytelling in scrolls and folding screens - I loved this delicate reindeer decked out in red collar...

Meanwhile hidden in my coffers I found a pile of Angelina hot chocolate watercolors. Shall I have a 3-day sale tomorrow? You tell me.

Bonjour Red New York!

Luke's Lobster

Lobster Shake, watercolor, 9" x 11"
I was painting this lobster when the earth shook at 1:59 or so.
I picked him up by accident on Saturday. You know how these things go. He was in good company. I could have chosen any of his friends nearby.
All so attractive. But no, I fell hard, as usual/comme habitude. Lobsters are a favorite of mine from way back. It was my ritual birthday dinner since I was 5, so what do you expect?
Last night I headed to Staples and more lobsters stopped me in my tracks. Direct from Maine no less.
I'd heard a lot of talk about Luke. His reputations preceeds him. This guy is famous for being fresh, but sometimes a girl has to take a chance anyway.
I studied his street creds carefully.
Whoa $16 bucks for a lobster sandwich? I'd bought a cooked lobster at Union Sq Market for half that.
This guy has to be something!
A girl came by with her boyfriend. I heard her say,
"I don't care. I'm getting one and you can't have any"
"Oh..OK?
I started having second thoughts...that good?
I decided to show some restraint and ordered only half lobster sandwich. This better be good I'm thinking. At least the little box can be reused to carry macarons.
PBers, I'm here to tell you this is the BEST lobster roll I've ever eaten. Certainly far better than that precooked lobbie I ate Saturday. Who knew? This guy, Luke does it right! I'll be back for more. Big FRESH chunks of lobster straight from Maine. No mayo in sight. Just a tiny, drizzle of butter on a nicely toasted bun. Heavens PBers, I'm telling you. If this guy went to Paris, he'd make out like a bandit and I'd be 1st in line. Well worth every penny.
Luke's Lobster can be found in Union Square several days a week in front of Staples. If you live out of town high tail it over here right now, even if we do have the occasional earthquake or so.
BONJOUR LUKE'S LOBSTER!

Rouge feu

I had something altogether different planned for today...
But I kept hitting RED photos...
Red dogs...
In Paris...
Carrying unread newspapers in the Metro...
Bear is big on Paris Reds...
Red checks - a classique..
Do YOU use the Pudlo Guide to restos in Paris?
Red Parisien naughtiness in the Metro station...
A dolls face in a toy store window...
Classic red Paris on rue Vavin...
Are barber shops red because of former blood-letting?
Did all grey Jacadi order up this dashing red stop sign to relieve the greyness?
French Girl leaves the house in her red riding hood manteau...
Is she going for brunch to eat the much adored bagels and cupcakes..?
Or far better yet, Pierre Herme red red red Ispahan specialties!
BONJOUR RED AGAIN!
