iPod Touch I Think I Luv U

BEAR is not too thrilled with his new iPod Touch 4th Gen...
He's threatening to do something lethal if we don't figure this %$#@ thing out soon...
HELP George Clooney! Where R U when we need U?
Bet this 5-year old on Mad Ave could figure out the iPod Touch but we can't :(

What's with this slidey thing at the bottom? Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. And don't tell me to read the directions in the box - R U kidding. The type is -00.

BEAR does love his Paris maps so we managed to buy and downloaded all the Paris map apps David Lebovitz told us too...

So pretty non?

We heard the Louvre app is really swell and hey it's FREE. We got it. But how come we CAN'T OPEN #@!$IT!?

In fact we can't open any APPS we uploaded...

Why is that? SOS!

Someone at David's said this was a REALLY good app - but it's 303MB..isn't that like too many MBs? We only have 32 gigs on our little iPod Touch thingie :(

So these are my Apps so far. AND do not say anything about the Better Bum App - it's supposed to be really good according to the Daily Mail or some rag and hey it's FREE

Right now BEAR & I feel pretty idiotic 'cause we are not getting this iPod Touch thing. Is there a How-to book/class for us?YES! ANd we got it!

When we GET it, we are gonna toast Paris big time soon!

BEAR says he wants a cashmere baby bearfriend too...Hmmm

Soon we can create our own ICE CREAM APP right?

Got any great PARIS APPS PBers?

A BIG MERCI for buying books & stuff at PB! That's how we got this iPod thing - with award points.

iPOD TOUCH THING I think I Luv U!

Update:I found a book with BIG pictures, My iPod Touch(2nd edition) - they have lots of How-to videos here. Plus I'd set my iPod thing to ZOOM so I had do a 'RESTORE'-easy as tarte citron. We're cookin' BEAR et moi. Open Apps? - Open Sesame!

My Studio 2011

WELCOME! You're invited in to my studio 2011
Not that much different from my studio 2010 is it?
OK maybe it is.
Amazing how many ways you can throw stuff up in the air and it comes down in different patterns like pickup sticks.
These macarons are only 3 months old.
I use a pastry box to reflect the light - another Eureka moment.
Do you believe if you surround yourself with the things you love, eventually they'll sink into your brain by osmosis? I do.
I love Morandi, Wayne Thiebaud, Japanese prints, and Fr pastry.
The studio exhibit is constantly changing.
Here is a pile of Parisian gifts-with-purchase I send out with your watercolors.
What BEAR is reading these days.
BONJOUR STUDIO 2011!

Caffe Florian

Has your pet been dropping hints and making outright demands that they'd like to go to Venice, particularly Caffe Florian on piazza San Marco?

It's not that surprising with all the nattering on about Venice of late at PB? BEAR is a huge fan of Caffe Florian and insisted I return twice so he could lap up the luxury... Lots of real Venetians stop in, including Commissario Brunetti... And with good reason. The place is absolutely gorgeous and has been since it first opened in 1720 by Floriano Francesconi... The sumptuous murals were restored in 1858... The small rooms have their own names and distinct decor styles - the Oriental Room, the Chinese Room, The Senate Room, The Liberty Room... Really is there any need to take a gondola ride with all this grandeur?
I picked up a souvenir gondola instead...

You can happily sketch at Florian without being rushed - the service is very oldie worldie divine...

Or you can read the news in a dozen languages...

BEAR was delighted with all the fine details - Caffe Florian's name is plastered on everything, even on their silverware...

And the bill for a tres elegante pot of hot chocolate was a mere 9 euros...

Though you could easily break the bank for a jar of Florian's home made jam...

Or one of their signature scarves...

It's lovely to sit outside...

And take in San Marco's spectacular views...

Or follow BEAR's example and listen endlessly to Florian's own orchestra play all the old romantic tunes and just swoon...

Do get in touch if your pet would swoon over a portrait at Caffe Florian...

BUON GIORNO CAFFE FLORIAN!

Donna Leon's Venice

Venice is a mysterious seductress... You want to get to know her better... First you turn to history books for the elusive answers... But the clues to a city are it's people. And though both tourists and Venetian citizens ride the vaporetto together, there's an invisible wall between them... Venetians keep their nose hidden in their newspapers/Gazzettino, pet their dogs and ignore you... They sit on the end seats patiently waiting their fermata/stop, decked out in elegant outfits. They never fight for the window seat or aim cameras at the Grand Canal. And they never wear shlumpy jeans and hoodies... They do wear impossibly high heels to walk the cobbled calle/streets of Venice. They are the 'other' Venice. Leon agrees with Henry James' observation more than a century ago that "in Venice there is nothing so disagreeable as the visitors." You won't see them trekking over the crowded Academia bridge... Or noses pressed up to shop windows of blinding glass... Nor focusing greedy lenses on the icing cake palazzos... It's the back alleyways that make you long to know more...
What's behind those balconies and dark green shutters?
I found the answer by chance, on the shelves at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum gift shop. Stacks of Commissario Brunetti mysteries by Donna Leon held the answer for me.
Not just mysteries but Venice walks and a Venetian cookbook...
I chose at random, About Face and found within Venice walls made transparent. Venetian social hierachy is revealed both high and low - Brunetti is married to a Count's daughter (a university professor of literature) yet the criminals he daily deals with often come from the lower echelons. Details of proper social behavior, local political issues, what his family ate for lunch, where and what he drinks in a cafe, all are revealed in a way that opens a doorway like no other book.
Donna Leon was born in New Jersey, but has lived in Venice over 30 years. She's chosen not to have her books translated into Italian to maintain her anonymity. More about her in this interview...
Imagine my surprise when I found on page 217 an exact description of the little street near my hotel, Calle della Mandola. Including the optician where I bought my new glasses, the flower shop and the fruit vendor nextdoor - that kind of precise detail. A Venice map front-of the book marks every campo, calle, landmark mentioned.
I stayed at Hotel San Giorgio in the quiet Rio Tera della Mandola around the corner from Brunetti's florist.
FYI, the San Giorgio's staff were molto gentile/very kind. And the breakfast included was huge. Tutti perfecto!
That's how BEAR and I discovered segreti/secret Venezia. Grazie mille Donna Leon. I suggest you try her books. They start out slow, then coil like a cobra full of surprises. *BEAR was made an honorary Venetian citizen because of his good manners on the vaporetto, though he forgot his Il Gazzettino...
