Decembre 1st...

Oh my,

really, december 1 st already?
Seems so unreal..

Last year it was freezing cold in Paris. Full of snow.
Today, nothing, barely a cold winter breeze.

Last year i was freshly employed by my company
Today i'm used and kind of tired of it.

Last year i was living at a friend's appartment
Today i have my own and i love it!

Life was so different.... and i'm pretty sure the next year will be even more eventful for me.
Can't wait   :)

The New Choux!

Another French pastry lecon today deconstructing the basic creme puff or French choux. Sharpen your pencils svp.

Everyone knows the traditional French croquembouche wedding cake - a tower of choux pastry filled with chantilly whipped creme, then dribbled with molten caramel. Here a mini version minus wedding, obligatory hat and gloves. Indulge yourself!

What is the religieuse but a double-decker stack of choux?

La Maison du Chocolat helps you out with a nice cross-section view. Not so helpful since you can only buy these on Fridays/ Saturdays in October in Paris. I missed out...

I loved this decorative drawing on the walls of new patisserie Sebastien Degardin...

If you buy a how-to eclair book you can also make choux - same pastry.

Angelina makes the religieuse's pate a chou crustillant, a newish pastry look = crusty, crunchy texture.

Angelina has a book out showing the revisited Saint-Honore - more choux innovation...

At hotel Mandarin Oriental pastry counter a Saint-Honore of creme puffs de-stacked (8 euros).

Their trio de choux(8 euros) - some say the choux is the new macaron. What do you think?

Chemise Baruckello – livre Haunted House de Jan Pienkowski

J’ai lu des livres qui font peur, j’ai dormi, j’ai rêvé qu’une très grosse araignée courait sur mon lit, j’ai vu un petit jouet s’avancer vers moi et j’ai senti comme un souffle chaud dans ma nuque.
Il m’a réveillée en sursaut, j’ai mis quelques minutes à me débarrasser de cette vilaine impression et j’ai senti à nouveau quelque chose, quelque chose d’encore plus terrifiant : une envie pressante de faire pipi.
J’allais devoir traverser le grand couloir qui fait peur pour aller jusqu’aux toilettes, marcher dans la pénombre en pensant très fort à celui qui me suivrait sans se faire voir, laisser les grands portraits me regarder du coin de l’œil en ricanant, et le sol crisser sous mes pieds.
Alors j’ai mis mes chaussons douillets à pompons pour me donner du courage, j’ai allumé une bougie, j’ai jeté un coup d’œil au grand couloir pour le défier un peu et je suis partie l’affronter…






I don't know about you but i love pictures story, and that house, that vintage design ....kind of creepy but i'm sure it's pretty gorgeous during the day!  :)
